Portable Any Map Image is Raster Image file type. Bitmap image created in the Portable Any Map format, which was designed to handle several types of portable monochrome, grayscale, and color images. PNM may include raster graphic data in a .PBM, .PGM, or .PPM format. PNM may be stored using binary data or ASCII text. PNM files store one image and do not use compression.
PNM is a family of formats supporting portable bitmaps (PBM), graymaps (PGM), and pixmaps (PPM). There is no file format associated with pnm itself. If PNM is used as the output format specifier, then ImageMagick automagically selects the most appropriate format to represent the image. The default is to write the binary version of the formats. Use GIMP to open is Windows/Mac/Linux OS's.
